Orient Express Slot Review

Orient Express: Introduction

Orient Express is one of the most beautiful-looking slots I have played in a good while. However, as everybody who has been married would know, after a while looks aren’t everything. If you want to keep something ‘sticking around’ then personality is going to play a major role too. Luckily for you, there is more personality in this slot than a charismatic public speaker. It is just that good.

Quick Stats

The minimum bet per spin is €0.20 and the maximum rests at €100. There are twenty paylines that you can bet on.

The Return to Player is set at 96.2%, which is not too shabby. You should be able to hit a win about a third of the time, with free spins being triggered one in every 121 spins. That part is a bit of a letdown, to be honest. It means that even those with whopping bank rolls may never end up triggering the free spins mode. Granted, the game should offer you wins at a rapid pace otherwise, so this is not too much of an issue.

Orient Express Slot Theme

This game is absolutely oozing with theme. I am sure you have all heard of the Orient Express, right? If not, then look it up. It is probably one of the most epic train journeys in the world. Not just in terms of the distance that it covers, but also the luxury of the train. This is a train journey for the rich who really do not fancy travelling by plane.

The reason I love the theme of Orient Express so much, other than the fact that the game is so detailed, is all down to the fact that it genuinely tries to emulate travelling on the Orient Express. Well, it emulates it in the best way that a slot can. As you play through the game, the ‘city’ the game plays in changes. In fact, in theory Orient Express is four slots rolled into one.

Orient Express Slot Features

Remember what I said earlier about the personality of the game? Well, this is where it all starts. The game is really four slots in one. As you progress through the game and trigger the free spins mode, the background of the game will change. This is meant to simulate that the train is speeding down the tracks and stopping in various cities along the way. The background changes, and the features will change too.

At the start of the game, you will not have the option to select the city you are stopped in. You will need to progress through all four. However, once you get to the ‘final’ stop, which is Istanbul, you can change the cities whenever you wish whenever a free spins mode concludes.

The free spins mode is triggered by nailing at least three scatters on the reels, very much standard fare here. The number of these scatters you get will dictate the number of free spins you can enjoy:

  • 3 scatters: 7 free spins
  • 4 scatters: 15 free spins
  • 5 scatters: 30 free spins

The best part is that you will be able to trigger more free spins during this game mode and it happens surprisingly often. In addition to this, the number of wilds on the reels will shoot up during your free spins. This is just as well, because the free spins mode is based around the wilds from the ‘base’ game.

This leads me conveniently onto my next point; wilds. As mentioned previously, as you progress through the game, the city will change. Each city has its own distinct wild attributed to it, so the gameplay changes up.

Your first stop is Paris. Walking wilds play a roll here. They can appear on top of random symbols when then reel stops.

If that happens, you get a free respin. These respins will continue as long as there are walking wilds on the reels. During the free spins mode, they are going to appear a whole lot more often. The Orient Express Paris scenery is quite pretty!

Next stop is Venice, Italy. If you get a win, then a multiplier may be randomly attached to it. This multiplier is between 2-5x. If you score a win during the free spins mode, then the multiplier is going to be applied to EVERY spin not just the randomly selected ones.

Moving onto Belgrade and the awesome features are going to be cranked up another notch.

On occasion, small trains will appear on the reels. They will make random stops as they drive across the reels. Wherever they stop, they will turn that symbol into a wild. Up to three can be made wild during the base game and this occurs randomly. However, during the free spins mode, this is a feature which occurs on every single spin, which is nice and nifty.

Your epic journey will end in Istanbul. Since you are now so far from home, it is time to send some postcards!

When you play, postcards will randomly fly onto the reels and turn random symbols wild. During the base game, this can be between 2 and 12 symbols. In free spins mode, it will happen on every single spin. Yes. This means that you can have up to twelve wilds during free spins. Imagine how much cash you could possibly win!

Closing Thoughts

I love the ‘progressive’ nature of Orient Express. Sure, it does take a while to trigger the free spins in the game, but it is worth it. As you progress through, those wilds are going to become more and more lucrative. If you can hit Istanbul, then you will be rolling in the things giving you wins more regular than rain in the north of England.  I don’t know how well you know me, but I absolutely love wilds and I love free spins even more. This is why Orient Express is going to be one of the slots I shall be playing for many, many years to come. I encourage you to do the same.
