Hook’s Heroes Slot Machine
Hook’s Heroes is a slot which is based upon the Peter Pan story and playable soon at Betzest Casino. Well, I assume it is. The main character is a chap with a hook and he seems to be a pirate. I reckon that NetEnt have tried to get as close as possible to the character without violating any copyright or something like that. However, that is by the by. All that matters is that the game is fun to play (it really is!). Let me tell you a little bit about what Hook’s Heroes brings to the table.
This slot was first unleashed upon the world in September 2015. It offers 5 reels and 20 paylines. It is a medium volatility slot with a house edge of 3.18%. The minimum bet per spin is 20p. The maximum is £200.
Since this is a medium volatility slot, you can expect the wins to come through at a steady rate. I have had several hundred spins on Hook’s Heroes and, to be honest with you, most of the wins are going to come from the free spins which do take a while to come through. This means that you should attempt to bet as close to the minimum bet as possible. I had a bank roll of around £100 when I played, and 20p per spin was a good starting point for me. I edged up from here when the wins started to flow in. I reckon you should do the same.
The theme of the game is similar to Peter Pan, although as I mentioned before, not that similar. The story is still under copyright and I can’t imagine the copyright was dished out for this game.
It seems as if the ‘story’ behind the slot is that a group of children have got together, tossed on some costumes, and started to stage a reenactment of the story. These children are anything but adorable, though. They are quite scary.
Honestly, while the game does look good and has a bit of detail to it, I can’t imagine that there are many people out there who are going to play Hook’s Heroes based on the theme of the game. I think NetEnt know this too. They have crammed a ton of features into it to make up for the abysmal theme. That being said, there probably ae a few people out there who think that Hook’s Heroes looks good. I am not one of them.
One of the things that really did impress me about this game is that NetEnt managed to make a mobile version of it so brilliantly. Yes. I know that this is standard fare for NetEnt. They do publish some of the best mobile games in the world. However, I love the fact that they have managed to shrink this down onto a mobile device and make it work so well despite it being and older game. Kudos to them there!
The wild, as always, will act as a replacement for every other symbol in the game. Nothing too special here.
In addition to this, there is a free spins mode. Well, close to a free spins mode. You just need 2 scatters to trigger a single respin. There will be a random feature attached to this respin. If you get three scatters, you can choose which feature you want. If you get 4 scatters, you can get 2 of the features. If you get 5 scatters, you get 3 of the features:
- Fairy feature: 7 free spins. Random wilds added to the reels.
- Mermaid feature: 10 free spins. All wins are multiplied by 2. If there is a wild involved in the win, a 4x multiplier will be attached to it.
- Pirate Captain: 15 free spins. Paylines are out the window. Instead, visible symbols on the reels play a role. There will be no wilds involved.
I actually love the way in which the features play out in Hook’s Heroes. I was not a massive fan of the theme. I know most people reading this review will not be. However, I was a fan of the features which is why this is one of my top NetEnt slots right now.
