Sunny Shores Slot Review

It’s cold, wet and miserable as I look out of the window and a trip to a tropical paradise sounds very enticing indeed. That’s what’s on offer in Sunny Shores, a summer-themed video slot from Yggdrasil Gaming. Played with 5 reels and 27 paylines, it benefits from a win both ways game engine and comes with expanding wilds and sticky wild re-spins. Available to play across all compatible devices, stakes start at 10p per spin.

Sunny Shores has a social game feel as far as design goes – the setting is a sun-kissed, tropical paradise. Symbols include a selection of brightly coloured fruit as well as a bouncing cartoon sun which is the game’s wild – imagine if the Teletubbies had decamped to a tropical island and you’ll get the picture.

You won’t find any free spins or pick ‘em rounds on this summer jaunt. There’s plenty of beachside fun on offer though courtesy of wild which has some magical properties.

Whenever a sun wild lands, it expands in at least 2 opposite directions and fills 1 or 2 symbol positions. They too become wild. These wilds can expand horizontally and diagonally as well as vertically. They can even stretch to the other side of the reels too. If a wild expands and drops off the left of the reels, it will reappear in the appropriate position on the right side and vice versa. A full complement of expanding suns will add a potentially massive 16 wilds into play.

Every time an expanding wild lands, you’ll play the Sticky Wild Respin feature. The triggering wild is locked in place and a free respin is awarded. Land another sun wild here and the process is repeated and another respin follows. This can lead to many wilds on the reels!

The theme may be scorching but you can’t say that about the volatility here. In fact, the variance is in the low to medium range. You can expect to see the expanding wilds and their subsequent respins regularly. The RTP stands at a squeak over 96%.

As we’ve come to expect from Yggdrasil Gaming-powered video slots, the design here is impressive. There isn’t a huge range of extras on offer but the action comes along steadily thanks to the win both ways game engine and the wilds. If you’re in need of a virtual vacation then Sunny Shores could be just the tonic you’re looking for. Alternatively, Spinions Beach Party from Quickspin is a good option and highly volatile.

Sunny Shores is a 5 reel, 27 payline slot that is powered by Yggdrasil Gaming. Playable on a 5×5 reel set from just 10p a spin across desktop, mobile and tablet devices, it has a feel-good theme as it’s a combination of a video slot and social game.

Visually, Sunny Shores is colourful and vibrant – everything you’d expect from a summer themed release. Set in a tropical paradise, symbols on the reels include fruit and a bouncing cartoon sun. In Yggdrasil Gaming’s own words, it looks like a tropical version of Teletubbies! As for winning combinations, they can be created from the far left and far right side.

When it comes to gameplay, Sunny Shores is all about the Expanding Sunny Wild feature – each Sunny Wild that lands anywhere on the reels will expand in at least 2 opposite directions. The expansion can be 1 or 2 wilds in each direction with expansions occurring vertically, diagonally and horizontally. If you’re lucky, you can benefit from up to 16 new wilds. If the expansion exceeds the reel set, it will continue on the opposite side.

When a new Expanding Sunny Wild lands on the reels, you will trigger the Sunny Wild Respin feature – you will be rewarded with a free respin with the expanding wild remaining sticky on the reels. If you get another Expanding Sunny Wild, you will get another respin. The respins continue until no new Expanding Sunny Wild appears.

With no free spins feature, Sunny Shores is quite a simple game which is all about the Sunny Wild – the features trigger regularly which is good but it’s a low to medium variance title which is more about entertainment that big wins.

Despite being a good game, Yggdrasil Gaming has developed better slots with the volatile Vikings Go Berzerk highly recommended. If you like summer themed games, Thunderkick’s Sunset Delight is recommended.
